A New Year

2012 has arrived and classical classes have begun again. Our schooling schedule includes two days at Heritage Study Center, the local NEO classical Christian 'school'. Though not really a school, Heritage is more of a lifeline and, as the name suggests, study center for homeschoolers who are following classical curricula and educating via the trivium. Its teachers are top-notch, and provide excellent instruction and partnership with parents. [For more information about Heritage and classical education, what it is and what it means, see the 'links' above and to the left.]

We haven't been homeschooling long; just three years. But in that time we've loved exploring our part of the world: putting together museum trips, scheduling tours of local corporations, researching historical markers, letterboxing and geocaching, and travelling to events throughout the area. While it has been a challenge, homeschooling has been liberating as well. Not being tied to traditional schedules has opened lots of doors for us, literally and figuratively. It's great to both say and hear 'yes, we can do that' - because we don't keep 'normal school hours' or are required to follow school conventions. That Northeast Ohio, and our small town in particular, is exceptionally homeschool-friendly is definitely something to be thankful for.

With your help, this site will become an aggregate of local events, arts performances and openings, and book recommendations. We hope you'll find creative uses of your time and ways to experience classical life in the area.

I hope you find answers to questions, helpful insights, and inspiration, too. And I hope that you'll ask questions, comment, and contribute to make this site dynamic and vibrant for all NEOclassical educators.

Welcome. And let's begin.

Have your classical classes begun again? Or are you getting ready to get back in gear?

Did you make any changes to your curriculum over the holiday break?
